Bostitch Solutions for Changes
to Pressure Treated Lumber
Information Regarding Corrosion - For many years, the
industry standard wood preservative has been CCA (Chromated Copper
Arsenate). Effective January 1st, 2004, the pressure treated wood industry
voluntarily agreed to remove arsenic from the wood treating process.
Internal and independent testing has proven that the “new” pressure
treated wood formulations (Alkaline Copper Quaternary - ACQ, Copper Azole,
etc.) are more corrosive to fasteners
Bostitch recognizes the need to offer fastener solutions to address code
official requirements, wood manufacturers recommendations, and most of
all, construction professionals concerns. For the most extreme corrosive
environments, stainless steel fasteners are the best recommendation.
Bostitch currently offers grade 304 stainless steel fasteners in all types
of collation. For fasteners used with the new pressure treated wood in
less corrosive environments, Bostitch has you covered.
For our full line of wire-welded stick and coil nails, Bostitch introduces
THICKCOAT™ galvanization. This new technology in galvanization was
designed specifically to protect against today’s more corrosive pressure
treated lumber. This new coating technology uses an enhanced
electro-galvanization process to apply more than 2˝ times the amount of
zinc than conventional electro-plating. Coupled with this dense zinc
coating is a rust-resistant chromate overcoat. AWPA E-12 laboratory
testing has shown that THICKCOAT™ galvanized fasteners corrode at
approximately half the rate of our leading competitors.
For plastic collated round head strip nails, Bostitch offers a full line
of Hot Dipped Galvanized nails. Our Hot Dipped Galvanized nails meet or
exceed ASTM A153 zinc weight specification. This ensures a thick zinc
coating to provide superior corrosion resistance.
Bostitch continues to conduct the most extensive corrosion testing of
fasteners in the industry. Our testing is conducted in accordance with the
ASTM B117 or AWPA E-12 specifications. This testing is what gives us the
confidence to recommend our stainless steel, Thickcoat™ galvanized and hot
dipped galvanized fasteners for use in the new pressure treated wood.
